How to Install KA24E Oil Pumps
The KA24E is a four-cylinder 2.4-liter engine that Nissa made from 1988 to 1996. It appears in a variety of Nissan vehicles from this period, such as the Stanza from 1990 to 1992. An oil pump circulates oil through the engine to keep the moving parts lubricated while the engine is running. The oil pump in a KA24E engine consists of an inner and outer gear, which require replacement at the same time.
Instructions
- 1
Disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench to prevent the engine from starting. Remove the front engine cover with the oil strainer tube still attached. Discard the gasket for the front engine cover.
2Remove the retaining screw and mounting bolts from the cover of the oil pump with a socket wrench. Detach the cover for the oil pump from the front engine cover. Remove the inner and outer gears for the oil pump from the gear cavity.
3Clean the mating surfaces of the oil pump cover and the gear cavity with a shop rag. Place the new outer gear for the oil pump into the gear cavity. Place the new inner gear into the gear cavity with the grooved side facing up. Ensure the two gears mesh together properly and pack petroleum jelly into the gear cavity.
4Replace the cover for the oil pump and tighten the retainer screws to between 22 and 36 foot-pounds with a torque wrench. Tighten the mounting bolts for the oil pump cover to between 12 and 15 foot-pounds.
5Install a new gasket for the front engine cover, and replace the engine cover with a socket wrench. Attach the cable for the negative battery terminal and start the engine. Correct any oil leaks.

Types of Prius Water Pumps
The Toyota Prius is a mid-sized sedan that is available as a hybrid or standard vehicle. The water pumps, which move coolant from the radiator to the engine, come in a variety of designs from different manufacturers. The type of water pump is directly dependent upon the year and model of the Prius, and whether or not it is a hybrid.
GMB
The GMB Prius water pump model is designed to fit 2007-2009, 4-cylinder Prius Touring 1.5 liter and the 2001-2009 Prius base 1.5 liter models. The hub is triangular and the housing has a five-point, star-shaped design for installment.
A1 Cardone
The A1 Cardone model is compatible with all Prius models from 2001-2009. The hub and the housing directly beneath the hub are circular. The housing expands into a triangular shape on one side. The A1 Cardone also comes without the extended triangular base for a circular housing unit.
Beck Arnley
Beck Arnley is suitable for the 2001-2005 Prius 4 cylinder, 1.5 liter model. The hub is triangular, while the housing is circular. With an offset, five-point star housing nut for installment, the Beck Arnley comes with a removable gasket that fits with the water pump.
Airtex
The Airtex water pump is made to fit with all 2007 Prius Touring engines, as well as all 2006-2007 Prius base models. In addition, the Airtex is compatible with the 2001-2009 4 cylinder, 1.5 liter base models and the 2008-2009 Touring 4 cylinder, 1.5 liter models. Airtex has a circular hub while the housing is circular with an offset triangular piece to one side.
ACDelco
The ACDelco water pump is made for all Prius Touring engines from 2007-2009, all base engines from 2006-2009, and 4 cylinder, 1.5 liter base models from 2001-2005. The hub is circular, but with a larger diameter than most water pump models. The housing unit is comprised of an offset five-point nut system with evenly spaced grooves connecting it to the hub.
NPW and Aisin
Both the NPW and the Aisin water pump models are made to fit with all Prius models from 2001-2009. Both pumps are very close in design the ACDelco design, with a circular hub and a five-point housing unit.

How Electric Automotive Fuel Pumps Work
To run best, a vehicle needs fuel to be delivered to its engine on time and at the right pressure. The vehicles fuel pump is the mechanism that regulates these functions.
Function
When a vehicle is started, voltage is sent to the fuel pump and pressure quickly builds within the fuel system as the motor in the fuel pump begins to spin. Fuel is drawn into the fuel pump, and exits through a check valve. The fuel is then transferred to the engine via the fuel line.
Pressure
For an engine to work properly, the fuel has to be within the correct range of pressure. Not enough fuel pressure can be hazardous to the engine, while too much pressure can cause it to burn fuel rapidly and not run well. A pressure per square inch reading ranging between 30 and 85 is normal.
Powertrain Control Module
A powertrain control module (PCM) is the key feature that changes the way newer model vehicle pumps work. Older model pumps run at a set speed, while newer pumps have their speed controlled by the PCM. This helps supply an engine with the amount of fuel that it specifically requires.
