So Fix it

The fuel pump to your Saturn is what pressurizes the gasoline in the fuel tank and sends it to the fuel injectors and then to the engine to burn. If you are experiencing problems while driving your Saturn, such as sudden bursts of acceleration when pressing on the gas pedal steady or if the fuel pump is making noise and/or leaking, then the pump may be faulty and need replacing. This is a task that requires additional and more advanced knowledge about automotive repair, specifically in fuel and exhaust systems.

Instructions

Removing the Fuel Pump/Level Sensor Module

Relieve your Saturns fuel pressure system. Remove the fuel cap to equalize the pressure in the fuel tank.

Remove the negative cable from the battery.

Raise your Saturn with the jack and support it with jack stands.

Remove the fuel tank from under your Saturn. The tank must be as empty as possible, which may require some siphoning (with a siphoning kit).

Pinch together the legs of the retainers on the supply and return fuel lines with your needle-nose pliers. Pull the fittings from the fuel pump/level sensor module. Use a shop rag for any spilled fuel.

Mark on the fuel pump and on the fuel tank its exact position in the tank. Make sure these indicators align.

Unscrew the modules locknut counter-clockwise with your large channel locks. You may need to loosen the locknut using a hammer and a brass (not steel) punch.

Take out the module through the mounting hole. Be caul not to abruptly pull on the module, potentially breaking off the float or float arm into the fuel tank.

Check the O-ring seal on the mounting flange and replace if damaged.

Installing the New Fuel Pump/Level Sensor Module

Mark the new module on the same areas you marked on the old module to erence its position in the fuel tank.

Install the new fuel pump/level sensor module into the mounting hole of the fuel tank with care. Do not harm the fuel inlet strainer, float arm and float while inserting the module. Line up the markings you made on the module and fuel tank.

Install and screw on the modules locknut. Tighten it down with your channel locks.

Connect the fuel supply and return lines to the module. Check that they are secure on the module by lightly twisting and tugging them.

Install the fuel tank back under your Saturn.

Pour the fuel from the gas can into the filler hole. Install and tighten the fuel cap.

Reconnect the negative cable on the battery.

Remove the jack stands and lower your Saturn.

Spark plugs ignite the fuel mixture in your engines cylinders, without which your engine cannot burn gasoline efficiently. Installing new spark plugs on a Saturn Sky is a straightforward procedure. With a few tools and the right instructions, you can replace your own spark plugs quickly to save yourself a visit to the dealership and some money.

Park your car on flat, even surface and put on the parking brake. Allow your engine to cool before you remove old spark plugs and install new ones. Be sure to remove and install only one spark plug at a time as the wiring for each spark plug is specific and needs to attached in an exact order to function properly.

Pop open the hood and locate your spark plugs. Refer to your Saturn Sky owners manual if you cant find them, if you lost your owners manual see the link in the Resource section.

Remove the spark plug wire by pull on the boot and not the wire itself, or you risk damaging the wires.

Attach the spark plug socket to the socket wrench (attach a socket wrench swivel and extension if you need added length to reach the spark plug) and remove the spark plug by turning the wrench counter-clockwise. Clean the spark plug hole with rubbing alcohol and a clean rag.

Spray anti-seize grease onto the new spark plug and screw it into the spark plug hole by hand. Carefully tighten the new spark plug with the spark plug socket until its snug. Reconnect the spark plug wire. Move on to the next spark plug until you have finished installing all of them.

In May of 2008, General Motors and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a recall of certain Saturn Vue vehicles for transmission problems. Registered vehicle owners should have received notice of the recall by mail on or around May 5, 2008.

Transmission Problem

General Motors and the NHTSA recalled select 2008 model year Saturn Vues equipped with 6T70 6-speed automatic transmissions because of a manufacturing defect. In some cases, the transmission case side bore that holds the park pawl pivot pin could have a casting porosity that would lead to the driver being unable to put the transmission in "park."

Safety Risk

According to the NHTSA, this transmission problem could cause an accident or injury. If the driver is unable to put the transmission in the "park" position on a non-level surface, the car could roll without warning and hurt someone and/or cause property damage.

Solution

General Motors began notifying affected Saturn Vue owners of the recall on May 5, 2008, per the NHTSA. Recall notifications contained information on which authorized dealers to bring affected vehicles to in order to receive a free replacement of the transmission. Concerned Vue owners who did not receive notification or bought vehicles second-hand after the recall may contact the NHTSA or General Motors to determine whether their vehicles might have been affected.
