Troubleshooting a 1986 Lincoln Car Air Suspension

The Lincoln brand is Fords entry in the luxury automobile market. Lincoln makes air suspension standard on their cars to deliver a smoother riding suspension than simple coil springs could deliver. Air suspension uses air bags on the suspension to cushion the frame and to regulate the leveling of the car by pumping air in and out of the bags.

    Inspect the air bags on each suspension strut while the car is off. The air bags will be deflated at this point, but any large tears will be visible. The air bags must be intact in order to hold air. Also check the air line that runs from the upper part of the wheel well to the top of the air bag. If the line is disconnected, then no air can be pumped into the suspension.

    Park the 1986 Lincoln on a flat area like a parking lot or garage, but keep the car running. Put the car in Park and get out of the car. Listen caully for the pump in the engine bay to inflate the air bags. Look at the corners of the Lincoln and note if any corner is not rising at the same level as the others, or if none of the corners are rising. If one corner is failing to rise, then there may be a small tear in the airbag or the air line running to the bag. If none of the air bags are inflating, then the pump may be broken or the air tank may have a hole in it.

    Open the trunk of the Lincoln and look at the air tank. If there are any tears in the surface of the tank, then it cannot hold enough pressure to send air to the air bags. Listen for air rushing out of the tank. Inspect the air lines running from the air tank for any tears as well. Turn the car off and watch the corners as they settle down. If any one corner is falling faster than another, that could also indicate a leak in the air bag.

Honda Rubicon Troubleshooting

The Honda Rubicon is an all-terrain vehicle that allows hunters and adventurists to cover rugged environments in little time. If you are having problems with your Honda Rubicon, there are a few things that you can do before you take it to a service shop. Common issues reside in the fuel, battery, or the engine. You can diagnose these problems with little hassle and minimal knowledge of the inner components for your Rubicon.

    Insert your key into the Rubicons ignition and turn it halfway to engage the electrical system. Check the fuel gauge on the right side of the steering column. Make sure that you have enough fuel to start the ATV.

    Fill the gas tank with fresh fuel if you are on empty. Make sure that you are not using fuel that has been sitting in a container exposed to the elements. If condensation has entered the fuel container the water in the fuel could cause misfires in the engine.

    Use a siphon hose to pump the old fuel out of the gas tank if this is the case. Remove the fuel cap from the gas tank and then insert one end of your siphon hose into the tank. Connect the other end of the hose into an empty container. Pump the siphon hose until all of the gas has been pumped out of the tank and into the container.

    Fill the gas tank with fresh fuel. Replace the fuel cap and make sure that you tighten the connection to the tank. If the fuel cap is loose or not present, air will get into the tank causing problems for the carburetor. Try to restart your Rubicon.

    Lift the seat off of the Rubicon to reveal the battery. Use a voltmeter to test the battery connections. Rubicons use a 12-volt battery. Connect the test leads to the battery terminals on the top of the battery. You should get an 11-12 volt reading. If you dont get this reading, replace the battery.

    Put the Rubicon into the neutral using the gearshift located on the side of the ATV. Hold the "Up" and the "Down" shift buttons down at the same time and then release them. Press both of the buttons down again and hold them for about two seconds. Look at the ATVs display for a troubleshooting code. Show the troubleshooting code to a certified technician, who can perform more extensive repairs in the engine.

Troubleshooting Guide for the 1999 Dodge RAM Truck

The 1999 Dodge Ram is a pick-up truck made by Dodge under the Chrysler company. This truck is considered "heavy duty" because its primarily for towing or hauling. If you are having problems with your 1999 Dodge Ram, there are several things that you can do before you take it to a shop. Non-invasive troubleshooting can also help get your Dodge Ram back on the road. You dont have to be a Dodge mechanic.

Instructions

    1

    Put the key into the ignition and turn it halfway to engage the instrument panel. Look over the gas and battery gauge on the right side of the dashboard. Make sure that you have enough fuel to start the truck. Dodge Rams use regular gasoline. Fill the gas tank as needed.

    Go to the front of the truck and release the hood latch on the left side of the grill. Raise the hood to reveal the engine and the battery. The battery is on the right side of the engine inside the truck. Make sure that the connections are tight from the battery cables to the battery terminals.

    Tighten the connections to the battery with pair of insulated channel locks. Try to restart the truck. If the truck will not restart, test the battery with a voltmeter. Place the testing leads from the voltmeter to the battery terminals. Look at the display on the voltmeter for a reading. Replace the battery if you arent getting 11-12 volts on your battery.

    Look over the cooling system if you are having problems with Ram overheating. The cooling system is on the left side of the engine. Pour 50/50 coolant into the coolant tank until it reaches the fill line on the side of the tank. You dont have any 50/50 coolant, use distilled water.

    Look around the Dodge Ram for leaks around the truck. If you find any leaks, you should have a professional mechanic take a look at the truck in order to make repairs. Driving your Ram while there is a leak could further damage the unit.

    Have your Dodge Ram towed to a repair shop if you have your check engine light on. Repair shops have onboard diagnostic machines to diagnose the problems.

95 Camaro Troubleshooting

The 1995 Camaro is a sportscar manufactured by Chevrolet. The 1995 model comes with a V-6 engine along with a multipoint fuel injection system. If you are having problems with your 95 Camaro, there are several things you can do before taking it into a service shop. Common issues occur with the fuel, battery or the spark plugs on the car. These repairs dont have to be done by a technician. You can do them yourself.

Instructions

    Pop the hood to gain access to the battery. Make sure that the connections from the cables are tight with the battery terminals. Use a pair of insulated pliers to tighten the connections. Look over the connections for any corrosion. Clean the connections with soda and a wire brush to remove the corrosion.

    Turn the ignition to the "On" position to engage the instrument panel. Look over the gauges to make sure you have enough fuel to start the car. Fill the tank if you need more fuel. If the gauges will not turn on, you have a problem with your battery. Connect the battery to a battery charger and leave it overnight. Try to restart the car. Replace the battery if the car will not restart.

    Look over the coolant levels if the car is overheating. The cooling system is on the left side of the engine under the hood. Fill the coolant system with 50/50 coolant to remedy the problem. You can use regular water if needed until you can get coolant.

    Pull the spark plug from the spark plug housing on the engine. This is labeled as "Spark Plug" on the engine. Touch the spark plugs wire to the metal on the car. Look for a blue spark from the spark plug. Blue sparks mean that the spark plug needs to be replaced. Spark plugs can be found at local auto repair shops.

    Look at the bottom of the car for any leaks. If you do find a leak, have the Camaro towed to a service shop for further inquiry. Repair shops have specific tools for diagnosing leaks.
