How to Replace a 1999 7 3L HI Pressure Oil Pump

The 7.3-liter Power Stroke engine that Ford manufactured from 1995 to 2002 is a diesel engine and typically has a turbocharger. It is most common in heavy Ford trucks from this period, and is the standard engine for the 1999 Ford F350 Super Duty with four-wheel drive. This engine requires a high-pressure oil pump, which is mounted directly to the cylinder block. The oil pump replacement procedure on a 1999 7.3-liter engine requires the removal of the radiator and the crankshaft damper.

Instructions

    1

Disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench to prevent anyone from starting the engine. Place a drain pan for the coolant under the radiator drain and open the drain. Allow the coolant to drain into the drain pan and replace the drain plug.

    2

Remove the retainers for the air intake duct with a suitable pry tool and detach the air intake duct from the radiator support. Disconnect the expansion tank on top of the radiator with a socket wrench and remove the cover for the radiator support brace.

    3

Disconnect the cooling fan and its shroud from the engine. Detach the hoses from the radiator and remove the retaining bolts for the radiator with a socket wrench. Remove the radiator from the vehicle.

    4

Raise the vehicle with a jack and support it on jack stands. Disconnect the cover for the flywheel housing with a socket wrench and hold the flywheel in place with a suitable holding tool. Remove the mounting bolt for the crankshaft pulley bolt and disconnect the pulley. Detach the crankshaft vibration damper from the engine.

    5

Assemble Step Plate Adapter D80L-630-A, Damper Wear Ring Remover T94T-6379-AH1, Bearing Collet Sleeve T77F-7025-C, Remover Tube T77J-7025-B and Forcing Screw T84T-7025-B to the crankshaft damper. Tighten the forcing screw to pull the damper wear ring from the hub.

    6

Remove the retaining bolts that attach the oil pump to the cylinder block with a socket wrench. Detach the oil pump housing and its square gasket from the cylinder block.

    7

Install the new oil pump and gasket to the cylinder block. Torque its mounting bolts to 14 ft. lbs with a torque wrench. Complete the oil pump installation by performing steps 2 through 5 in reverse order. Connect the negative battery terminal with a socket wrench. Start the engine and check for oil leaks.

How to Replace 7 3 Injectors

The 7.3-liter Ford Power Stroke engine is an eight-cylinder diesel engine with fuel injection. Its most common on larger Ford vehicles made from 1995 to 2002, such as 3/4-ton and full-ton pickup trucks. Each cylinder of this engine has a fuel injector that delivers fuel to the cylinder in a precise amount and timing sequence. The replacement of the fuel injector in a 7.3-liter engine requires you to disassemble the fuel rail assembly on top of the engine.

Instructions

    1

Place an oil drain pan under each oil drain and open the drain plug with a socket wrench. Allow the oil to drain into the drain pan and replace the drain plug. This will prevent oil from entering the combustion chamber while you replace the fuel injectors.

    2

Remove the valve cover with a socket wrench, and detach the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors. Remove the drain plugs on the oil rail and fuel rail. Disconnect the retaining screw for the oil deflector and remove the oil deflector. Remove the retaining bolt for the fuel injector.

    3

Place the fulcrum of injector remover No. T94T-9000-AH1 below the hold-down plate of the fuel injector. Fasten the remover screw into the hole in the fuel injector plate, and tighten the screw to remove the fuel injector from the injector bore. Discard the copper washer.

    4

Clean the injector bore of any debris with rotunda injector sleeve brush 104-00934-A and a clean shop towel. Lubricate the new fuel injectors with clean engine oil and mount a new copper washer onto the injectors.

    5

Push the fuel injectors gently into the injector bore to seat the O-rings. Place the open end of injector replacer No. T94T-9000-AH2 between the hold-down plate and the fuel injector. Fasten the tool to the cylinder head with the retaining bolt from the tool kit. Tighten the bolt to completely seat the fuel injector and disconnect the tool from the cylinder head.

    6

Install the oil deflector and tighten the mounting bolt to 108 inch-lbs. with a torque wrench. Tighten the fuel rail drain plugs to 96 inch-lbs. and tighten the oil rail drain plug to 53 inch-lbs. Connect the wiring harness for the fuel injectors and install the valve cover.

How do I Replace 7 3L Diesel Injectors

How do I Replace 7.3L Diesel Injectors?

Ford manufactured its eight-cylinder, 7.3-liter Power Stroke diesel engine from 1994 to 2002. This engine was a complete redesign from Fords previous 7.3-liter engine and featured electronic control with direct fuel injection. This engine is common in heavy Ford trucks, and is the standard engine for the 2002 Ford F350 Super Duty truck with four-wheel drive. The replacement of the fuel injector in this vehicle requires special tools and the removal of additional components to access the injectors.

Instructions

    1

Disconnect the valve cover with a socket wrench, and unplug the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors. Remove the drain plugs from the oil rail to keep oil out of the combustion chamber while you replace the fuel injectors.

    2

Remove the retaining screw for the oil deflector with a socket wrench and disconnect the oil deflector. Disconnect the retaining bolt for the fuel injector.

    3

Remove the fuel injector from the injector bore with Injector Remover No. T94T-9000-AH1 and discard the copper washers. Loosen any debris in the injector bore with Rotunda Injector Sleeve Brush 104-00934-A and clean the injector bore with a shop towel.

    4

Install new copper washers on the new fuel injectors and lubricate the injectors with engine oil. Push the fuel injectors into the injectors bore to seat the O-rings. Seat the fuel injectors into the injector bores with Injector Replacer No. T94T-9000-AH2.

    5

Install the oil deflector and tighten its retaining bolt to 108 inch-pounds with a torque wrench. Replace the drain plug on the fuel rail and tighten it to 96 inch-pounds. Install the drain plug on the oil rail and tighten it to 53 inch-pounds. Connect the wiring harness for the fuel injector and install the valve cover with a socket wrench.
