How to Disable the Alarm System on a 1997 Honda CR V
The car alarm on your 1997 Honda CR-V can be very annoying if you are trying to replace your battery or make a repair to the vehicle. You can disable the car alarm in your 1997 Honda CR-V by taking the negative lead off of your battery. This takes the electrical power away from the alarm and leaves it dead. Once the valet switch is enabled, the car alarm will be disabled, allowing you to make your repair.

Pop the hood to your Honda CR-V.
2Locate the battery under the hood. This is to the right of the engine.
3Determine which of the leads is the negative lead. The negative lead will have a "-" sign next to it.
4Loosen the terminal with a socket wrench.
5Pull the negative lead off of the battery to disable the car alarm.

How to Disable a Car Alarm on a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix
Some car alarms are more sensitive than others. If somebody is walking by the car and nudges it, the car could go into frenzy. Car alarms are also annoying when trying to make repairs to the cars. If you want to disable the alarm on your Pontiac Grand Prix, you can easily turn it off by accessing the alarm transmitter. This is located under the steering wheel. By engaging the valet switch, the alarm automatically disables.

Open the Grand Prix and put your key in the ignition. Turn the ignition until you have turned on the cars electrical system, but not the engine.
2Pry off the dashboard panels around your ignition cylinder with your fingers or a flat-head screwdriver.
3Locate the alarm transmitter in the ignition cylinder. This is a small black box.
4Locate the "Valet Switch" and turn it off. This switch will be labeled. When you turn it "Off" the LED light on the transmitter will go off.
5Replace the dashboard panels around the ignition cylinder.

How to Reset an Alarm on the 2000 Toyota 4Runner
Your 2000 Toyota 4Runner is equipped with an anti-theft system that is tied in with the power lock system. The alarm turns on when you power lock the doors using the keyless entry remote device. When you change the battery in your 4Runner, the alarm system automatically becomes disabled and needs to be reset. You can reset the alarm yourself from your home garage, saving yourself time and money.

Put the 4Runners key into the ignition and turn it to the "on" position. Find the valet switch near the hood release on the drivers side dash. Turn the valet switch on and off three times quickly. Listen for a short chirping sound coming from the alarm system.
2Press and hold the unlock/lock buttons on your keyless entry device. When you hear one long beep, release the buttons.
3Turn the valet switch on and off again quickly. Turn the key in the ignition to the "off" position and then remove it from the ignition. Lock the doors using the remote to test the system.

Determine the location of the valet button in your vehicle. The valet button is installed in a discreet location in a vehicle. When the Clifford alarm system is installed, the installer generally provides the location and the number of times the button should be pressed.
2Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the "ON" position, then quickly turn it back to the "OFF" position.
3Press the valet button -- a small black button -- based on the number of presses for your vehicle. The number of presses is normally between one to five times. This should be done quickly after turning off the ignition. Press the valet button 15 seconds between each press to disable the alarm system.
