The 2002 Kia Spectras heating control panel is located directly beneath the cars radio. This control panel also has the switch for the Spectras fan controls and air conditioner. If the heating control panel is malfunctioning, you may want to consider replacing it. The first step toward doing so is removing the faulty control panel from the car. The control panel is attached to the Spectras front dash cover.

Disconnect the Spectras negative battery cable with pliers or a wrench. Inspect the dash to find the two Phillips screws on the underside of the odometer hood.

Remove the two Phillips screws. Grasp the dash cover and pull the top edge of it downward to unhook it. The heating control panel will come out with it. Examine the back of the dash cover to view the back of the heating control panel.

Unplug the wiring harness from the heating control panel. Around the heating control panels perimeter, youll find four Phillips screws.

Remove the four Phillips screws. Pull the heating control panel out of its mount to remove it.

The engine light codes, also known as diagnostic trouble codes, on a KIA Optima are designed to provide information about a specific failure or malfunction on the vehicle. These alpha-numeric codes are created by the engine control module and then stored in memory where they can be retrieved at a later date with a scan tool. These codes begin with the letter P and are followed by a four digit number sequence. Each code corresponds to a specific problem that can be identified by using a service repair manual. Most factory repair manuals provide a flow chart that technicians can use to diagnose and correct the problem that triggered the code.

Turn the engine off, but rotate the ignition switch to the ON position. The dashboard must have power in order for the scan tool to communicate with the ECM.

Find the Optimas diagnostic data terminal and plug the scan tool into the terminal. On most Optimas, the terminal is underneath the front edge of the dashboard on the drivers side of the vehicle. In some models, it is under the front edge of the dashboard, but mounted vertically on the right side of pedal area.

Turn on the scan tool, then navigate to the DTCs menu. Command the scan tool to read and display the current DTCs stored in the ECMs memory.

Write down the codes displayed on the scan tools screen, then disconnect the scan tool and turn off the ignition.

Visit your local library and look up the code in the Optimas service manual. Make copies of the code description and the diagnostic flow chart.

Losing your keys can be a hassle, especially if you have one with an electronic key fob. If you own a Kia Sorento and lost the keys, or if you just want a spare, you can get a new set fairly easily as long as you have the right information and can prove you have a right obtain them. Once you get your copy, always test it to make sure it works before leaving the shop.

Take your Kia car keys to the closest Kia dealership along with the ID key. The ID key has the code to program electronic keys.

Go to the parts department and request a copy your key. They will ask if you want a basic key or an electronic one. Basic keys can be made quickly, but there will be a wait for an electronic one.

Show the Kia representative where your car is if you want an electronic key. The parts department worker will need to program the key to your car.

Write down your ID key code. The ID key should be in your paperwork.

Go to the Kia dealership parts department that is closest to you.

Provide proof of ownership that you own the car, such as your ownership papers. Give them the ID key, as well, which will allow them to look the car up and obtain the information needed to program the key.
