How to Reset a Honda Civic Via the Ignition Key

How to Reset a Honda Civic Via the Ignition Key

A Honda Civic will alert you every 10,000 miles that it is time to perform standard maintenance. When this happens, a light will come on in the instrument panel. If you take the car to a Honda dealer for service, the mechanic will reset the light for you. However, if you perform system maintenance on your Honda Civic by yourself you must reset the maintenance indicator manually, using your ignition key.

Instructions

    1

Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position but dont start the vehicle. Find the trip meter button located near the bottom of the dashboards instrument panel.

    2

Press the trip meter button and hold it down for 10 or more seconds.

    3

Continue to press the trip meter button and turn the ignition key to start the car. Wait for the light to turn off.

How to Use a Lug Nut Key

How to Use a Lug Nut Key

Getting a flat tire is frustrating; not being able to remove the flat tire is maddening. Automobiles are provided with all the necessary equipment to change a tire: a jack to raise the car; a "doughnut" or spare tire to help you get home or to a service station to repair your tire; and a tire iron to remove the lug nuts that are keeping your now wounded or deflated tire securely on your car. The tire iron, or lug wrench, also doubles as a lug wrench key, and is specifically designed to help remove the lug nuts on the tire. Using the lug nut key correctly can accelerate the tire changing process.

Instructions

    1

Examine the lug nuts on the tire and determine if there is a locking lug nut. Typically the locking lug nut will have a different head, either rounded or with a design.

    2

Place the lug nut key on the locking lug nut, making sure that the key is on the nut securely.

    3

Turn the lug nut key clockwise to loosen the lug nut. If the lug nut is on too tightly, step downwards on the lug nut key for added force. Remove the lug nut by unscrewing it.

    4

Continue loosening and removing the remaining lug nuts with the lug nut key in the same fashion.

Why Wont My Mazdas Key Turn In the Ignition

Why Wont My Mazdas Key Turn In the Ignition?

A Mazda key will not turn in the ignition for three main reasons: a problem with the physical key code, a tight steering column or a faulty ignition switch. In each case, the key is not connecting properly with the ignition switch.

Mazda Key Code

The Mazda key can contain a computer chip in its head specifically coded to communicate with a particular vehicle. Starting the ignition requires the correct code. A key inserted without the correct code may not turn at all or may only crank forward without starting.

Steering Wheel Lock

A steering wheel has a lock mechanism to prevent the key from turning in the ignition, a security device to prevent theft. To start the ignition, pull and hold the steering wheel to the right or left before you turn the key.

Tires Turned Tight

A key may not turn the ignition switch when you park the car on a hill with tires turned to the curb or out too tight. This position places pressure on the locking pin in the steering column and prevents it from moving. Rock the steering wheel left and right to loosen the locking pin and start the car.

Lose Ignition Switch

The ignition switch and starter can become loose and slip so the key fails to make correct contact. You can try to push the key in as you turn it. The starter may require replacement or at least tightening.

How to Get a New Key for a 99 Ford Expedition

The 1999 Ford Expedition comes standard with a passive anti-theft system Ford calls "PATS," that incorporates a computer chip-equipped key to cut down on vehicle theft. Ford codes the chip inside the key with a digital signal unique to the particular Expedition. A transponder inside the dashboard reads and recognizes this signal as soon as you insert the key into the ignition. If the chipped key is not present, the Expeditions ignition system is disabled. In the event you lose or damage your key, youll need to have a Ford dealership replace it and program the replacement key to your Expedition.

Instructions

    1

Go to your Ford dealers parts department with your 1999 Expeditions VIN number, registration or title and your state issued ID.

    2

Present your VIN number to the parts counterperson and request a new key for your 1999 Ford Expedition. The Parts Manager will need to verify you own the Expedition by matching your title or registration with your state issued ID (if the Parts Manager is not available, ask to see the Service Manager or Parts and Service Director). This is a safety measure incorporated by Ford Motor Company in 2007 to prevent thieves from requesting keys to your Ford vehicle.

    3

Go to the service department with your new key and request to have the key programmed to your Expedition. You will have to have your Expedition present, so if you dont have any keys for it, youll need to tow it to the dealership.
