How to Replace Broken Car Keys
A major inconvenience that most people dont consider when going about your daily life is the possibility that your car key could break. You might expect that on occasion youll experience a flat tire or a dead battery, but a broken car key usually doesnt cross your mind. Unfortunately, keys do break. And when they do, it is imperative that you locate your spare key or contact the correct person or company to obtain a new car key. After all, the most important part of a working vehicle is a key to operate it.

Use your spare keys until you can obtain new keys for your car.
2Call your local car dealerships service department to order a new key. If you have a late model car that uses a transponder key embedded with a computer chip to match that of your vehicle you will need to purchase a new key from an authorized vehicle dealership. Expect to pay a large fee for a new transponder key, as they run anywhere from $150 to $250 per key, depending on the make and model of your vehicle.
3Provide the vehicle service department with the vehicle identification number of your car. The location of the VIN depends on the type of car you drive. It could be on your drivers side windshield, viewable from outside of your car or it could be located on the door panel of the drivers side. VINs are always located on purchase paperwork, insurance information and registration forms. The VIN contains the key code for your specific vehicle, which allows the key maker to know exactly how to cut your new key.
4Pick up your replacement key and test it on your vehicle.

Losing your car keys is an annoyance no one wants to deal with. However, losing your keys isnt as annoying as knowing exactly where your keys are: locked in your 2002 Chevy Tahoe with no means of obtaining them. When you lock your keys in a late-model car, its not a good idea to attempt to retrieve them the same way your parents did when you were a child. Sticking a wire hanger into the door frame of your newer-model car could damage your lock mechanism, which means adding the expense of having your vehicle worked on to your already annoying day.

Call your local police or sheriffs department or a professional locksmith or towing company. All are equipped with the necessary tools to open your Tahoes doors without damaging your locks.
2Inform the representative on the phone of your vehicles location and ask to have someone sent out right away to retrieve your car keys for you.
3Provide the tow truck driver/locksmith/law enforcement officer with proof of your identity and ownership of the vehicle. You can do this by presenting your drivers license along with your title, registration or insurance card. If you generally keep your vehicle information in your glove compartment, explain your situation, and you will be permitted to retrieve your information once your doors are unlocked.
4Pay for any services rendered. Police and sheriffs officers dont charge for helping you break into your own car.

How to Make Replacement Keys for a 99 Chevrolet Camaro
The 1999 Chevrolet Camaro is one of two models of sports cars produced by Chevrolet. The vehicle was available in both hard-top and soft-top convertible, and was available with either an automatic or manual transmission. Each Camaro has its own unique VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) which allows the vehicle to be identified. If you lose your keys, most Chevrolet dealers can make a new key for your car as long as they have the VIN.

Locate the VIN of your vehicle, which will be listed on both your registration and on your Camaros insurance card.
2Go to your local Chevrolet dealerships Parts Department. To locate a dealership near you, visit the Chevrolet Locate A Dealer website, provided in the Resources section of this article.
3Provide the representative with your government-issued photo identification, the vehicles registration and the VIN. The name on the photo identification must match the name on the registration to verify ownership of the vehicle. Once the ownership of the vehicle has been confirmed, and the specific vehicle has been located in their system, the dealer will cut new keys.
