The Jeep Grand Cherokee grille is attached to the its reinforcement at the front of the vehicle, making it more rigid and increasing its durability. The grille is constructed from plastic and can crack or break with an impact, necessitating replacement of the grille itself. Replacement grilles can be purchased at your local dealership. You might be able to obtain a good used part from a salvage yard, however, and save yourself a significant amount of money.

Open the hood of your Grand Cherokee and locate the two bolts on the top of the radiator support that secure the grille to its reinforcement and radiator support.

Remove the two upper mounting bolts from the grille with a 10-millimeter socket and ratchet. Set the bolts aside.

Locate the retaining screws on the front of the grille. There are three screws inside the vertical slats of the grille.

Remove the retaining screws from the front of the grille with a Phillips screwdriver and remove the grille from the front of the Jeep.

Removing rust from hard-to-reach parts of a motor can be a time-consuming and frustrating experience if you dont have the necessary tools for the job. Its possible to buy nontoxic rust removal agents that are specifically designed to eliminate corrosive rust from nooks and crannies that are hard to reach.

Remove the motor laminations the engine. The method for doing so will vary depending on the type of engine youre working on, so youll need to consult an owners manual if youre unsure how to do this.

Put on the protective gloves and mix the rust removal agent with water in the container if its in concentrated form. The ratio of rust remover to water will vary depending on the product youre using and how heavily the laminations are rusted. Consult the instructions on the packaging of the product youre using for confirmation.

Submerge the laminations in the mixed rust remover. Lightly rusted laminations will need to be left for between 10 and 30 minutes. Heavily rusted laminations could need up to 24 hours, depending on the brand of rust remover youre using.

Remove the laminations from the container and rinse with warm water and soap.

Removing the catalytic converter is not often required on your Jeep wrangler, but if you need to do it the process only takes a few minutes to complete. New converters are available though the dealer and many parts stores. They do not often go bad, but debris under the truck can damage the case or body of the converter.

Raise the front of your Jeep with a jack. Position a set of jack stands under the front axle housing and lower the jack until the Jeep is resting securely on the jack stands.

Locate the catalytic converter under the truck. It is in the exhaust system just in front of the muffler and just behind the exhaust down pipe. Find the flange at the front of the converter with the two mounting bolts that secure it.

Remove the mounting bolts from the front flange with a ratchet and socket then separate the front pipe from the catalytic converter. Move to the back of the converter and locate the exhaust clamp that secures the catalytic converter to the muffler.

Remove the two mounting nuts from the clamp and separate the catalytic converter from the muffler by pulling the converter forward. Twisting the converter as you pull it will often help to free it from the pipe.

Remove the converter from under the truck.

Removing the neutral safety switch from your Jeep Cherokee may be necessary if you have to wiggle or otherwise manipulate the transmission shifter for the engine to start. The neutral safety switch is designed to keep the engine from starting with the transmission in gear. If the switch fails, the Jeep may start, but more often, the Jeep will not turn over at all. Replacement neutral safety switches are available from any auto parts store and through the Jeep dealer network.

Raise the front of the Jeep off the ground with a jack and position a set of jack stands under the frame to support the vehicle while working under it. Slide under the passengers side of the Jeep and locate the neutral safety switch on the side of the transmission just above the transmission oil pan.

Position a drain pan under the switch then depress the locking tab on the wiring harness connection where it meets the switch. Pull the connector loose and set it aside.

Place a wrench on the hex-shaped portion of the switch and turn it counterclockwise until the switch is free of the transmission case. Pull the switch straight out of the case.

You can remove the passenger airbags from your Pontiac Grand Am. These days, airbags are considered to be essential safety features of a car. Airbags are designed to prevent head injuries during a crash, but sometimes airbags may actually cause injury, especially in children and frail people. For this reason some people may want to disengage the passenger airbags. Disengaging the airbags is a fairly easy procedure but be cautious to prevent accidental deployment.

Remove the battery cables from both sides of the Grand Ams battery using a socket wrench set. Wait for 30 minutes to let the electricity drain out. This is a very important step to prevent accidental deployment of the airbags.

Read the Grand Ams owners manual to find the exact location of the airbag fuse. Open the fuse panel cover located on the drivers side dashboard remove the fuse pullers. Pull out the appropriate fuse.

Open the glove box and remove the straps that hold it open. Remove the glove box from the dash by locating the screws and unscrewing it. This will allow you to access the passenger airbag. Very caully unbolt the airbag with the socket wrench and unhook the power cable that is connected to the back of the airbag. Make sure your body and face are out of the way of the airbag at all times while you do this in case of accidental deployment. Remove the airbag from the compartment.

Put the glove box back in and screw the screws back in place. Reattach the straps. Put the airbag fuse back in place and close up the fuse panel cover. Reconnect the cables to the battery.

There may come a time when you will need more room in your Infiniti I30. It could be for extra storage in the trunk, or to lay something flat thats too long to fit in the back seat or the trunk. Whatever the reason, removing the back seat of an Infiniti I30 is a fairly easy task requiring no tools. You can create extra room in the back seat of your Infiniti in no time.

Open the trunk and both rear doors of the Infiniti. Hold the seat bottom away from the back of the seat and lift directly up. It should unlatch itself fairly easily. Repeat for the other seat bottom.

Undo the bolts and hooks that are holding the seat back in place at the bottom of the seat back. If you do not find the bolts and hooks, you may have to access them through the trunk. Repeat on the other seat back.

Lift the seat back up and forward to remove it. Lift the seat out of the Infiniti. Repeat for the other seat back.

You can pull the codes from your 1994 Toyota pickup right from home using an OBD I scan tool. This tool is used to retrieve trouble codes and reset the On-Board Diagnostics computer (OBD). It can be purchased at any auto parts retailer. Sensors positioned throughout the vehicle monitor all the functions of the mechanical and electrical functions of the pickup. The OBD computer alerts you to any trouble codes by illuminating a warning or service light on the pickups instrument panel.

Plug the OBD I scan tool into the diagnostic port located on the drivers side dash under the steering column. The port is the same size and shape as the OBD I scan tools cable. Dont force it into the port, or you may bend the pins.

Put the key into the ignition, and turn it to the "II" position, but dont start the engine.

Turn on the scan tool. Wait for it to retrieve the codes. It will display them on the face of the scan tool.

Write down the codes.

Unplug the scan tool, and turn off the vehicle.

Nothing says power like a loud revving of your car. To increase this noise, you may need to remove silencers (or mufflers) from the exhaust system. The silencer is basically a plug that fits into your tail pipe, so you should be able to see and remove it pretty easily.

Remove Silencers From an Exhaust Tip

Define what is holding your silencer in place. Most use screws or allen bolts to hold the silencer to the exhaust tip. While slightly hidden, the screws should be plainly visible when looking at the exhaust tip at eye level.

Remove the one or two bolts holding the exhaust silencer to the frame. Silencers differ on how they are bolted to the frame of the exhaust system, but most have one screw or bolt at the top.

Loosen the bolt mid-way down the tail pipe on the clamp that meets the head of the silencer. You may not have this extra screw on the clamp. This is more common with stock parts.

Pull on the silencer, removing it completely from the exhaust tip. You may need to wiggle it to make it loosen enough to pull out completely. If you are not worried about reusing the silencer, then use pliers to grip it as you pull.

Use a hanger to help remove a stuck silencer. Push a wire coat hanger through the pipe, and use it to maneuver the silencer out of the exhaust tip.

Clean the exhaust tip to remove any lubricants or grime. If you used any lubricant to help remove the silencer, make sure it is completely clear before firing up the engine to avoid the smell of smoke or oil.

General Motors manufactured a four-cylinder 2.2-liter engine known simply as the 2.2 engine from 1990 to 1997. This engine appears in many GM vehicles from this period, such as the Chevrolet Cavalier. The cylinder head in this 2.2-liter engine is part of the combustion chamber and sits on top of the engine block. The removal procedure for the cylinder head is generally similar for all vehicles with the 2.2-liter engine.

Open the filler cap on the fuel tank to relieve the pressure in the fuel tank. Start the engine and disconnect the fuel pump fuse in the fuse box. Allow the engine to idle until it stalls and crank the engine for at least three seconds to ensure the fuel system is empty. Replace the fuel pump fuse in the fuse box.

Remove the negative battery cable with a socket wrench to prevent the accidental discharge of fuel during the cylinder head removal. Disconnect the air cleaner assembly from the engine and detach the vacuum lines to access the cylinder head.

Detach the electrical connectors from the engine to obtain access to the cylinder head. This typically includes the electrical connectors for the fuel injector, canister purge solenoid, manifold absolute pressure sensor, throttle position sensor, oxygen sensor and engine coolant temperature sensor.

Disconnect the cables from the accelerator control bracket and remove the accelerator control bracket from the engine with a socket wrench. Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and support it on jack stands.

Remove the exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold. Place a clean container under the drain plug for the radiator and open the drain plug. Drain the coolant into the container and store the coolant for reuse. Lower the vehicle with the floor jack.

Relieve the tension on the serpentine drive belt by turning the belt tensioner counterclockwise and detach the serpentine drive belt from its pulleys. Disconnect the alternator from the engine. Remove the bracket for the power steering pump with a socket wrench and push the pump aside to gain access to the cylinder block.

Support the engine with engine support fixture J-28467-A. Disconnect the upper motor mount with a socket wrench and remove the bracket for the drive belt tensioner.

Remove the electrical wiring from the spark plugs and disconnect the evaporative emissions line under the intake manifold. Detach the outlet coolant hose from the engine. Disconnect the transmission filler tube from the intake manifold if your vehicle has automatic transmission. Detach the fuel lines from the engine and detach the valve cover from the engine.

Record the position of the rocker arms and push rods before removing them from the cylinder block. This will allow you to install them to the correct positions later.

Note the positions of the cylinder head bolts before removing them with a socket wrench. Lift the cylinder head from the cylinder block with the intake and exhaust manifolds still attached. Remove both manifolds from the cylinder head.

Disconnecting the battery cables from the battery on your Chevy S10 pickup is necessary anytime you are working on the engine or electrical system in your truck. The cables come off very quickly and will ensure the engine cannot get accidentally started or cranked over while you are working around moving parts or parts that could become suddenly energized. If you are replacing a battery in your S10, you will need to remove the cables as well.

Open the hood of the truck and locate the battery on the passengers side of the truck. Loosen the clamp bolt on the negative battery cable end with a wrench.

Lift the negative battery cable off the negative battery terminal and isolate the cable away from the battery. Loosen the clamp bolt on the positive battery cable end with a wrench the lift the cable off the battery.

Isolate the positive battery cable from the battery terminals while you work. Since the cables are no longer connected to the battery, they can be secured away from the battery together with no risk.

Without a fully functional battery, no motorcycle is operational. As goes the battery, so goes a bikes performance. While removing the battery from most motorcycles requires you to simply access the battery compartment below the bikes seat and disconnect the terminal wires, Harley Sportster 1200s designed the battery compartment such that the negative terminal is directly connected to the bikes frame. Consequently, removing the battery from a Sportster 1200 Low is a slightly more complicated procedure than it is with most other motorcycles.

Remove the black plastic cover for the battery compartment. The cover is located underneath the seat on the left side of the bike. Remove it by gently pulling on the top of the cover to unsnap its top clip. This should allow you to easily remove the entire cover and set it aside.

Slide the plastic electronic battery harness to the right of the battery to access the negative terminal.

Remove the bracket connecting the negative ("-") terminal to the frame of your Sportster with a socket wrench. The negative terminal grounds the battery. Removing it first will allow you to remove the wires connecting the positive ("+") terminal without shocking yourself.

Pull the wires connected to the positive terminal off by hand.

Cover the negative terminal with black electrical tape. This will protect you against accidentally touching the terminal to the frame, thereby grounding the battery and potentially shocking yourself.

Slide the battery out of the compartment.

Pontiac offered the 2002 Grand Prix in the SE, GT and GTP models, in both sedan and coupe forms. The engines in the Grand Prix were the 3.1-liter V-6, the 3.8-liter V-6, and the 3.8-liter, supercharged V-6. Removing the spark plug wires on any of these engine combinations is an identical process, though the smaller 3.1-liter affords more room for working under the hood. The tools for completing this project are all available at an auto-parts store and some general retailers.

Stand facing the front of the engine and remove the far-left, center, and far-right spark plug wires, using a pair of pliers as close to the engine as possible. Pull on each spark plug wire with the pliers until they pop off the spark plug.

Stand on the passenger side of the vehicle, facing the engine. Remove the rear spark plug that is closest to you, using a pair of pliers as close to the engine as possible. Go to the drivers side of the vehicle and remove the rear spark plug wire that is closest to you, using pliers as close to the engine as possible.

Lift the front end of the Grand Prix using a 2-ton jack or one with greater capacity. Place two jack stands beneath both the left and right lower control arms. You can pull the car onto two vehicle ramps instead of using the jack and jack stands.

Lie beneath the front end of the car and slide back until you can see the rear of the engine when you are facing upward. Remove the center-rear spark plug wire by using a pair of pliers, as close to the engine as possible.
