The best fog light bulbs for automobiles produce white or selective yellow light. Fog lights are generally mounted low on the front of your car, aimed toward the road. This provides increased illumination of the road surface for low-visibility conditions such as fog, rain, snow or dust. Fog lights are not a legal requirement and should only be used for low-visibility driving situations. Misused fog lights can produce glare for other drivers as well as excessive foreground glare, impairing your driving vision.

Selective Yellow Bulb Coating

If you would like to make your existing head light bulbs into selective yellow lights, you can buy a special coating that will limit the amount of emitted blue light. This is a cost-effective way to achieve similar results with your fog lights.

Most newer vehicles, be they cars, trucks or SUVs, come standard with fog lights. Park your vehicle in a safe work place. Look for a flat and level surface that has adequate light to work by. Turn off the engine and apply the parking brake.

Wait 30 minutes before beginning work to allow the vehicle to cool. Slide underneath the front end of the vehicle and position yourself near the rear of the drivers side fog light.

Remove any dust covers or access panels. These can usually be removed by prying them off with a Flathead screwdriver. Once these are removed, locate the wiring harness. The harness will be plugged into the fog light socket. Unplug the harness to access the interior of the fog light assembly.

Unscrew the mounting bolts. The bolts hold the assembly in the front bumper of the automobile. On most autos, there will be three bolts which can be removed with a regular wrench. Once the bolts are removed, slide out the old fog light assembly.

Insert the euro clear fog light assembly. Place the new assembly into the same place in the bumper from where the old assembly was removed. Attach the mounting bolts, wiring harness and dust cover as they were on the original assembly.

Repeat the process for the light on the passengers side.

Modern cars, trucks and SUVs come equipped with a variety of lights to aid in driving. Headlights, parking lights, turn signals, brake lights, tail lights and fog lights all work on the same basic principle and are only as useful as the light bulb they contain. If you notice a fog light has stopped working, the problem is almost certainly a broken bulb. This should be replaced right away.

Park your vehicle in a work friendly area. It should be relatively flat and have ample light to work by. Turn of the engine and let the automobile sit for 30 minutes to completely cool down.

Slide underneath the front bumper of your automobile to the spot directly behind the broken fog light. Locate and remove any dust covers blocking access to the interior of the fog light assembly. Most are held on by clips or small screws.

Unplug the wiring harness from the back of the fog light assembly. Reach in and grasp the light bulb. Turn it to the left to remove it from the socket.

Insert the replacement bulb and turn it to the right to lock it in place. Plug the wiring harness back in. Replace the dust cover.

Although not as important as the headlights, a vehicles fog lights still make driving safer and easier when there is a lot of fog in the area. When there is a malfunction with the fog lights, they must be replaced as quickly as possible. Thankfully, replacing a fog light on the 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo is a simple process that does not take much time.

Turn off the Monte Carlo and put on the gloves. Whenever working in or under a vehicle, gloves should be worn for safety reasons.

Place the jack under the vehicle and raise it to a comfortable level. Whereas the headlight assembly is accessed through the hood of the car, the fog lights can only be reached from underneath.

Unplug the electrical wire connection that is connected to the fog lights. The connection is located under the vehicle, plugged into the fog lights. This will allow you access to the fog light assembly.

Remove the bulb socket by twisting and pulling it from out of the fog light assembly. Remove the old bulb by pulling it out of the assembly.

Insert the replacement bulb into the assembly and lock it into place. Reattach the socket by twisting it back onto the fog light assembly. Reconnect the electrical wire connection to the fog light assembly and lower the Monte Carlo back onto the ground.

If you own a 1992 to 1995 Honda Civic there will be fog lights installed in the lower front bumper. However, over the years these fog lights have certainly seen their share of wear and tear and it may be time to upgrade to a Euro-styled halogen, or an amber colored lens, or maybe youve had an accident and you simply need new ones. Rather than go to the local garage, this is a perfect do-it-yourself job.

Make sure the engine is off and you have applied the parking brake. Never work on an automobile that is on or that is not securely parked. Let the car cool if it has been running a while. When the hood is cool to the touch it should be safe to begin.

Lay a blanket under the front bumper and crawl down underneath the front end of your Civic. Look directly behind the drivers side fog light and notice the wiring harness plugged directly into the lights socket. Unplug this wire.

Use an adjustable wrench to loosen and remove the three mounting bolts holding the old fog light assembly to the bumper. Then pull the entire assembly out and discard of it appropriately.

Insert you chosen replacement fog light assembly. Secure it in place in the Civics bumper with the supplied mounting screws or bolts. Plug the wiring harness back in. Then repeat this same process on the passenger side light and you are finished.

Fog lights provided additional visibility when driving through heavy fog or rain. The Toyota Tundras fog lights are mounted on the lower edge of the front bumper cover. They are controlled by the fog light switch located on the steering column.

On/Off

Inspect the turn signal stalk to find the fog light switch. It is affixed to the edge of the stalk. Turn the fog light switch forward to turn on the fog lights or turn it backward to turn them off. As long as there isnt a problem with your Tundra, using the switch should operate the fog lights.

Faulty Switch

If turning the fog light switch back does not turn off the fog lights, there could be a problem with the fog light switch. Because the the switch is integrated with the turn signal stalk and headlight switch, the entire combination unit will likely have to be replaced. This requires disassembling the steering column to access the switchs mount.

Electrical Wiring

Ideally, you will test the switch prior to replacing it. An automotive voltmeter or similar tool can do this. If there is no problem with the switch, search for a short in the electrical wiring. This process can be tedious, but once the short is located, the wiring can be repaired, restoring the fog lights operation.
