Gasoline Versus Diesel

Location
First, confirm that you have sufficient gasoline in the tank. If you do, then go to the fuel tank at the back of the vehicle. Crawl underneath the vehicle and check the fuel tank for holes. Follow the fuel line from the fuel tank to the engine. Look for corrosion along the fuel line which might indicate a fuel leak. Check components that are often in need of maintenance, such as the fuel filter, fuel pump, spark plug and starter.
Troubleshooting
Put at least two gallons of gas in your fuel tank and immediately try to start your vehicle. This should cover the possibility of an empty fuel tank. Your fuel filter, fuel pump and spark plugs are easily replaceable; replace these components. If you have some automotive knowledge, you might be able to check and replace the camshaft mounted near the top of the engine as well. Also, check your catalytic converter, located underneath the vehicle, to make sure it is not warped or damaged. Consult a professional mechanic if the problem continues.

Instructions for Removing the Intake Manifold on a 6 9 Ford
The intake manifold for an delivers fuel and air to the engine in a precise ratio. International Harvester made an eight-cylinder 6.9-liter diesel engine from 1982 until 1987. This engine commonly appears in Ford F series trucks during this period, especially F-250 and F-350 models. The removal of the intake manifold in a Ford truck with a 6.9-liter engine requires you to remove the injection pump and other components to access the intake manifold.
Instructions

Remove the cables from the negative terminals of both batteries with a socket wrench. Disconnect the air cleaner from the intake manifold. Plug the air intake of the intake manifold with clean shop rags to keep debris out of the engine.
2Detach the electrical connectors from the injection pump. Remove the bracket for the fast idle solenoid with a socket wrench, so you can access the mounting bolts for the injector pump. Disconnect the cables for the cruise control and accelerator from the throttle lever, if your vehicle is so equipped. Remove the bracket for the accelerator cable and push it out of the way.
3Remove the fuel lines, in the elbow inlet and fitting adapter from the injection pump with a socket wrench. Rotate the injection pump out of the way, and disconnect the fuel lines from the injection nozzles. Cap all fuel lines and injection pump fittings with fuel system protective cap set T83T-9395-A to keep debris out of the fuel system.
4Disconnect the retaining nuts from the the injection pump with tool T83T-9000-B. Detach the injection pump from its adapter, and remove the injection pump from the engine.
5Disconnect the fuel return lines from the rear injection nozzles on the number seven and number eight cylinders. Detach the fuel return line on the fuel tank, and disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the engine. Remove the ground cables for the engine wiring harness from the left cylinder head.
6Remove any additional components necessary to access the intake manifold on your vehicle. Disconnect the mounting bolts for the intake manifold with a socket wrench, and remove the intake manifold from the cylinder heads.

How to Replace Injectors on a 6 0 Diesel Engine
The Ford 6.0 Power Stroke is an eight-cylinder 6.0-liter engine that Ford has manufactured since 2003. It is a diesel engine that Ford most often uses in large vehicles such as 3/4-ton and 1-ton pickups. The function of the fuel injectors is to deliver fuel in a precise timing and quantity. You can replace the fuel injectors on the Ford 6.0 diesel engine without removing the fuel rail, unlike most gasoline engines.
Instructions

Remove the valve covers with a socket wrench and detach the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors. Disconnect the mounting bolts for the crankcase-to-head tube assembly and remove the assembly from the crankcase.
2Disconnect the oil rail from the engine. Push the electrical connector for the fuel injector out of the rocker arm carrier with a small pry tool.
3Plug the oil drain holes next to the glow plugs with clean cloth. Disconnect the retaining bolt for the fuel injectors with a socket wrench and release the hold-down clamp.
4Pry the fuel injectors from the engine with a Snap-On SDMT440 Torx tool so that you dont damage the fuel injectors. Discard the O-rings and copper washer on the fuel injector. Pull the cloth from the oil drain holes.
5Mount new O-rings and copper washers to the fuel injectors. Coat the fuel injector assembly with clean engine oil and install the fuel injector. Attach the hold-down clamp for to the fuel injector and torque the mounting bolts to 24 ft. lbs. with a torque wrench.
6Place the electrical connector for the fuel injector electrical into the rocker carrier. Lubricate the top O-rings on the fuel injector with engine oil.
7Install the oil rail into the fuel injectors so that the mounting feet of the oil rail are flush with their mounting surface on the engine. Install three guide bolts to hold the oil rail in place.
8Install six of the nine mounting bolts for the oil rail. Replace the three guide bolts with the three remaining mounting bolts. Tighten all nine mounting bolts to 10 ft. lbs. with a torque wrench.
9Connect the crankcase-to-head tube assembly and tighten the mounting bolts to 60 ft. lbs. with a torque wrench. Attach the electrical connector to the fuel injector and install the valve covers.

4 6 Engine Rebuilding Tips and Tricks
Whenever you decide to take on the often daunting task of rebuilding any engine, whether its a large, complex type of engine or a lawn mower, the most important part of the undertaking is a thorough knowledge of engines in general and how they function. This is especially true when the engine being rebuilt is the Ford 4.6, or the F6AE. When these engines were built, they were built in two locations and with two specification settings. The fact that the 4.6-liter engine has been used in a number of Ford vehicles is another factor in the need for a thorough knowledge of the specific engine being rebuilt and the specifications of each different component of the engine itself.
Romeo v. Windsor
The two plants that manufacture the Ford 4.6L engine are erred to as the Romeo and the Windsor plants, because of their geographic location. The difference between the two manufacturing facilities makes all of the difference for rebuilding the engine, because the two plants built different models, which also included manufacturing two forms of the same engine. Beyond that, the plants also manufactured two types of 4.6 engine, erred to as PI and NPI, or Power Improved and Not Power Improved. These two headings directly affected the manner in which the components of the engine were built and to what specifications they were adhered. You must make sure you distinguish the difference before you begin to rebuild so you can order the right parts.
Rings and Gaskets
Because of the specifications to which the engines have been built, you must take into consideration the fact that the gaskets and the rings that are used within the engine to create sealed components come in different sizes and are made of different materials. This means that a specific O-ring or piston ring cannot be purchased for the engine unless the specific set for the engine being rebuilt has been established.
Model Type vs. Model Year
Because of manufacturing demands and supply-chain requests, the engine model that was built for a specific make and model may have changed from one year to the next, meaning that just because a 1999 model was built with a Romeo PI 4.6 doesnt necessarily mean that the year 2000 model was even manufactured in the same plant. The next model year could be altered from a Romeo PI 4.6 to a Windsor NPI 4.6, depending on manufacturing needs. This should always be the first determination you make when deciding to rebuild a 4.6 engine.

The Exhaust Is Leaking at the Motor for My 2001 GMC Sierra 2500 6 0L
Leaking exhaust at the engine on the 6.0-Liter GMC engine means the exhaust manifold gasket is faulty and there no longer is a good seal between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head. To fix this leak, it is necessary to remove the exhaust manifold and replace the gasket. The exhaust manifold is secured to the cylinder head with six bolts.
Instructions
Removal

Lift the vehicle hood. Ensure the exhaust leak is coming from the mating surface between the cylinder head and the exhaust manifold, not the EGR valve or where the manifold meets the down pipe. Mark each spark plug wire with the paint marker to identify which wire belongs on what spark plug.
2Turn each spark plug boot about a half turn and pull it straight off the spark plug. Do not remove any plug wires from their respective coils.
3Remove each exhaust manifold mounting bolt with the proper size socket and ratchet. Gently pull the manifold away from the cylinder head a bit and remove the faulty gasket from the cylinder head.
Installation

Hold the new exhaust gasket to the exhaust manifold. Press the manifold and gasket to the cylinder head. Hand-tighten each exhaust manifold bolt.
5Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts to 10 foot-pounds of torque with the proper size socket and torque wrench. First torque the inside bolts, then the two outside bolts. Once all of the bolts are torqued to 10 foot-pounds, repeat the same process to 15 foot-pounds of torque with the socket and torque wrench.
6Install each spark plug wire by pushing it onto the proper spark plug. Pay attention to the marks previously made so the firing order is not disturbed. Shut the vehicle hood. Check the exhaust manifold bolt torque after the engine is warmed and cooled twice to ensure they maintain 15 foot-pounds of torque.

How to Repair a 6 CD on a 2007 Ford F 150
The six-CD changer in a 2007 Ford F-150 allows you to listen to six different discs without changing them. The changer has a disc reader that moves between the six slots to play each disc. Since the changer resides in the F-150s dashboard, its prone to overheating from the temperatures associated with dashboard components, as well as the sunlight striking the dash. While the six-CD player is not repairable by anyone without highly specialized factory training, for the do-it-yourselfer, removing the player for repair or replacement is an easy option.
Instructions
Removal

Insert the Ford radio removal tools into the dual holes on the two outer edges of the six-CD faceplate until they click into place.
2Pull outward on the radio removal tool handles to release the CD changer retaining tabs clear the retaining brackets. Pull backward on the radio removal tool handles to slide the CD changer clear of the dashboard.
3Reach behind the CD changer and unplug the antenna plug and power/speaker wiring harness connector by hand. Remove the Ford radio removal tools from the CD changer.
Reinstallation

Connect the antenna plug to the back of the six-CD changer by hand.
5Connect the power/speaker wiring harness connector to the back of the changer by hand.
6Slide the CD changer into the dashboard until it clicks into place with the faceplate flush with the dashboard.
